Classes for Young Adults, Tweens, and Children

Recommend – 6th grade and up
Virtual Reality -Students will use their smart phone (iPhone or Android) to download free Virtual Reality games or applications. Students will learn how to connect them to virtual reality glasses to experience the Virtual Reality world. We supply the VR glasses for use during class or students can bring their own.
Prerequisites: Smart Phone (iPhone or Android) and the ability to download apps to the phone through Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Note: MS Windows phones do not support this functionality.
Introduction to 3D Design and Printing – In this hands-on class, students will learn the basics of 3D printing including how to use the software Tinkercad, to create and design 3D objects. Students may bring a new USB to save their design. Prerequisites: Good computer skills.
Coding Classes – This is a multi-session class: We recommend Sessions 1 and 2. Additional sessions listed below are optional.
Introduction to Coding – Session 1 – This hands-on class focuses on showing students how coding languages are structured to perform tasks to meet specifications. Students will learn the fundamentals of a basic language using HTML, Hypertext Markup Language, the standard markup language, to create basic web pages and web applications. Program prerequisites: Good computer and typing skills.
Introduction to Coding – Session 2 – Building on the skills learned in Session 1, in this hands-on class, students will learn and develop a more advanced project using CSS (Cascading-Style Sheet) including visual layouts. Projects worked on in class will include both individual and groups. Coding 1 and good computer and typing skills.
Program prerequisites: Coding 1 and 2 – Good computer and typing skills.
Add-On Sessions –
Intro to the Python Language – In this hands-on class, students will learn how to use Python for coding – Python is a general-purpose programming language that emphasizes code readability. Python is a fast and friendly way to code. Program prerequisites: Good computer and typing skills
Intro to Coding using PHP/SQL – In this Coding class, students will be introduced to PHP and MySQL. PHP is a high-level, dynamic scripting language, SQL provides a high-level language for querying relational databases. The combination of PHP and MySQL language allows various options to create just about any kind of website. Program prerequisites: Coding 1 and 2 – Good computer and typing skills

Introduction to Coding 1 (using Scratch) This hands-on class focuses on showing students how coding languages are structured to perform tasks to meet specifications. Students will learn the fundamentals of Scratch, a block building basic language using HTML, hypertext markup language, which is the language used for creating web pages and web applications.)
Introduction to Robotics – Multi Sessions
Learn all about building, using, and coding robotic hardware and software, power supplies, input and output signals, wiring and then putting it all together in a fun project.
Session 1. Electronics/Robotics I: Circuits and Boards
This class is focused on showing the students how simple hardware can trigger movements, sounds, light, and more, to make various machines work. Students will learn the different hardware that will allow us to build various different objects. An education on power supplies, input and output signals, wiring and then putting it together in a simple and easy project (create a light meter, an audible alarm, and a tickle machine).
Session 2. Electronics/Robotics Part II: Analog Outputs
This class continues to focus on showing students hardware. The hardware is more complex for more varied motions or effects like a motor or dimmer. In this class students will learn the uses of such hardware and build a mini-car and a windmill. This class will allow them to use the parts in Part I to combine and make more complex projects.
Session 3. Robotics Part III: Coding Board
In this class, students will learn to connect their circuitry to the computer, write a simple code project and upload it to the board. The board will then run this code in order to perform certain functions.
Session 4. Robotics Part IV: Cloud Computing and Circuitry
In this class, students will create projects that can be controlled and commanded over the internet. We will create a light switch and an alarm with text message alert.
Computer Animation – Learn how to use your computer to create web-based computer animation. In this hands-on class, create and edit animated GIFs, stick figures and much more. Students may bring a new external flash drive to save their work. Prerequisites: Good computer skills.
Introduction to Adobe Photoshop – Become an instant graphic artist by working with images and pictures in Adobe Photoshop. Learn how to alter images including sizing, shaping and coloring. Re-touch, filter and add effects to create works of art or just make your digital photos look the way you want them to. Prerequisites: Completion of Introduction to the Computer or have equivalent knowledge.
Video Game Design with Unity – We recommend 3 sessions:
In this class students learn an amazingly simple but highly robust game creation program/platform using the Unity interface. They will learn how to build a game world, add a simple character, add objects using simple code, sound and lighting and add a GUI interface for their game such as a scoreboard, interactive buttons to reset/reload and exit game. When all 3 sessions are completed, Students will learn how to package and compile their game for use on PC and/or Macs.
Part 1: Students learn about adding sound, shades, custom lighting and textures. Students learn about creating additional scenes and loading them upon completion of active scene. Keywords: Sound Components, Material Textures, Material Shades, Prefabrication of Objects, Global light vs local dedicated light
Part 2: Students learn about the camera and the different character perspectives. Students build a simple nemesis that the character can interact with. Students will learn how to trigger events upon successfully defeat nemesis.
Part 3: Students will publish game and learn about additional platforms such as Web, Android and iOS devices, XBox and PlayStation.
Introduction to Web Design with WordPress – Learn the workings of Web sites and how to make your own Web pages. Layout text, add images and link to your favorite sites, even let your visitors email you. Work at home on the website you start in class. Prerequisites: Completion of Introduction to the Computer or have equivalent knowledge. Note: A strong wifi signal in the conference room is mandatory.
Introduction to Web Design with Dreamweaver – Create your own website and share your information, thoughts, opinions and photos with the whole world. In this class, you will be introduced to the workings of Web sites and how to make your own Web pages. Layout text, add images and link to your favorite sites, even let your visitors email you. For intermediate and advanced computer users.
Video Editing & YouTube – In this hands-on class, learn how to combine and edit your videos using Windows 10 Video Editor and Youtube Editor. Keep the parts you want, remove what you don’t. Understand timelines, add effects, transitions and text, overlay music and sound, and much more. Students will also learn how to upload their video to YouTube and use their editing program. Prerequisite basic computer knowledge. This class can be presented without the YouTube content.
Intro to Google Apps for Your Computer: In this hands-on class, students will learn how to use Google Drive to help with their school lessons and projects, specifically how to use Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and much more. Bring your questions. Prerequisites: Basic computer skills
Sketch, Draw and Paint on your iPad – Learn all about drawing on your iPad for anyone who wants to be creative, regardless of skill level- Students will learn to draw sketches using fun brushes and tools, use layers to build their sketches, and back up and sync their drawings.
NEW MAC CLASSES:
Creating IOS Apps – Multi Session–
Part 1 – In this hands- on class, Students will learn the XCode platform for developing Apple related software including mobile and desktop. Students will start off with an example of a design element and a brief lesson on the coding language Swift. Students will start designing the skin of a simple app and at the end class, they will render their skin in an emulator to simulate on an ios mobile device.
Part 2 – In this hands-on class, Students will take their design skills from Part 1 and apply them to the platform. Additional Swift coding will be introduced. And students will learn additional concepts regarding app variables and functions.
Part 3 – In this hands-on class, Students will finish the code for their application and learn how to add icons to the home and splash screens. Time will be given to allow students to send their app via email. Finally, the class will discuss alternative platforms for creating apps for Apple iOS. Students will be introduced to AppMachine, an interactive online platform that removes the “coding” from the processes.
All about GarageBand – Multi Session
Part 1 – GarageBand is a whole music creation studio right inside your Mac. In this hands-on class, you will learn how to play, record, and create music using the program’s included software instruments, and presets for guitar and voice, and virtual drums.
Part 2 – Students will be focusing on recording with guitars and using multiple takes to create a comp track, edit a track, and how to arrange, edit, and mix your projects. Students will earn how to export their project, share it with the world and save it to iCloud.
Apple’s iMovie – In this two-session workshop, students will learn how to use Apple’s iMovie program on a Mac computer. Students will learn the basics of recording a movie, as well as how to, edit, add sound clips, add animations and effects plus much more.

Make a Comic Book on Your Computer – In this hands-on class, learn how to use MS Word to create panels, insert images, add titles, text, speech and thought bubbles, layout pages, and more.
Create Photo Greeting Cards on your Computer – In this hands-on class, Students will learn how to uses MS Word to create a greeting card – Students will learn about document sizing, margins, how to design borders, use background colors, work with fonts and photos and how to edit photos to enhance their card and more.
Making a Music Video – In this hands-on class, students will use a free Windows 10 program to take pictures, graphics and music to create a music video. Students will learn how to use video features, add music, work with the timeline, effects, transitions and more.
Desktop Publishing – In this hands-on class, you’ll learn how to use your word processing program, Microsoft Word, to create greeting cards, designs, coloring book pages, and much more.
Me & Mom – Desktop Publishing – For four to seven-years-old, in this hands-on class, each child and parent/caregiver will work together to learn how to use basics on a computer, and graphics, fonts and photos to create greeting cards, coloring books and more.
